Out of Love
Unafraid
I stood too close
To the pretty fire
Like an unbuttoned child
I held the flame
All cozy and warm and watched
As it consumed my heart
Then swallowed me whole
Devouring my pride
And finally, my soul
Now 5000 feet high
Too close to the edge
Seduced by the view
I would leap
From a towering inferno
To a bottomless pit
To fall
Out

The Last of Love
A string of dismal days
turns a strand of knotted pearls
fallen into heartless hands
a speechless lariat of doom
squeezing life from hope
round about the neck of time
not enough light to betray dust
yet too little darkness to hide
in the dusk of implication
I bid the last of love goodbye.

Till Then
Our day for love
has passed
fate deemed
that it should end
But love like that
will never die, unlike those
who share it
do
Knowing it destroys
then loves again
that which
it values most
Dust on a second wind
a bittersweet déjà vu
another place in time
till then, dear love, adieu
For somewhere in between
‘tis love that sets the spirit free
to finally understand
the power of letting go.

Of Love Gone Wrong
Sweeter is the memory
of soft whispers in dreams,
than to dwell
in the land
of never come true
Better to embrace
days of joy spent
than to strangle
on what might have been
Lonely is the deceiver
of love gone wrong
coaxing me to believe
I might have been happier
had I stayed with misery
In truth,
after time’s healing grace
there’s more comfort
in remembering
moments of love
than to torture myself
with the bitterness of change.

Love, Revisited
Visiting the past
all it was
and could have been
is like crawling across
an emotional mine field
where I make war with myself
over and over again.

Curtains
Frills
veil the ache
like gauze on a window
shadows
whisper my name
tatting on glass
shatters deep
to the marrow
a mirror
steals my face
intrinsic view
a soul desperado
empty,
I reek
of good bye.

Last Dance
It won’t be long
till the end of
love and war
takes a prisoner
In a while
a fair wind
won’t even breathe
a whisper
It won’t be long
until the blade of never
cuts the cord
that binds earth to sun
It won’t be long
till the arms of forever
let go the stars
that truly want to fall
Any day now
the search will have ended
and the sea won’t remember
the shore
It won’t be long
until the song is over
last chance, and we are gone
to dance no more.
