An autumn chill

creeps the spine

anxious leaves

cling to stems

of life and limb

about to break

the tie that binds

the fall

they huddle close

commiseration

rustling

on a melancholy wind

a sadness yearning

to be soothed

and in one voice

a swirl that fails

to echo soft

or hush

the lonely sighs

of separation

and so, a scarlet leaf

I drift

the stains of night

to love

amidst dim silhouettes

of solitude

etched

somewhere in time

where every shadow

wears your face

and morning whispers

you are mine.

Just as your promise

Sealed my surrender

Where twilight covers daydreams

With a passionate embrace

You haunt me

Like the night wind

Through dry poplars

Whispering my name

If I could reach into this memory

To touch one moment in time

Feel its tenderness on my skin

Hold the warmth of its kiss

Against my lips

Listen to the heartbeat

Of infinite devotion

I would not let love go

~~~

Now a silky breeze slides

Around the deep blue of my soul

Remembering that moment

I was loved

By you.
