Love's Last Departure

Sentimental fool
who saves old bouquets
reminders of love's last departure

dusty roses hung upside-down to dry
baby's breath
gathered in scarlet ribbon
stiff,
easily snapped in half
like me...

folded pink petals
rigid,
indifferent to sunshine's passion
or fat fuzziness of bees, hovering
buzzing a love song
laced with honey making prowess...

stiff stemmed
I wait for you
yet,
induced formalness,
hurt's disclosure
has made a proper woman of me
soul folded, legs crossed
hair gathered, held in place
by the scarlet ribbon
of sensibility.

The Sigh of a Rose

Broken...my heart
and it made not a sound
no screams, or echoes
or thuds in the night

Quiet it was
as the sigh of a rose
when my tears fell
like rain
on our dreams

Broken our vows
no smashing or tinkling
silent the shatter
that cuts like a knife

Broken the trust
no snapping or crunching
mute were the words
that you failed to say

Broken the love
no cracking or bursting
only the flutter of hope's
wounded wings.
