I Could Love You

As passion swirls a surf washed shore
I walk along deserted beaches in my soul
cool against my face, the memories
of trust, loyalty, and devotion
riding a salty breeze they spin a dream
while my fingers rake through forgotten
sands of joyous times,
you write your name across my heart
and I know, without a doubt
I could love you.

In the distance
rolling thunder rumbles heavy
crushing tears from cloudy days
lightning fingers crack the vaulted sky
treasured hopes escape a secret prison
finding freedom from the storm
loving shelter of your arms
while I believe beyond a doubt
I could love you.

As love's storm is dismissed
I watch our ship embark, gliding
against a royal sunset
a heavenly robe
purple, with flowing gilded edges,
opens wide, the door to our horizon
with you at the helm, our windjammer
glides to safe harbor,
your hands on my face
soft kisses trace a sanguine smile
all the while, I know
with certainty,
I could love you.

I Remember Love

Counting stairs into the night
Like the blind, I escalate
To find, the memory of your touch
Switched off eyes…insensate
On my way to that place in time
Where your fingers laced with mine
I remember love

Faint promises laid out like lilies
Wilting the dead, no air to breathe
My summer weeps with discontent
This room aches for sweet relief
Secrets bare, emotions dance
While I remember love

Curtains stained with smoke’s regret
Candles burnt black against the wall
Old songs whine of jaded joy
As silence roams the hall,
Tripping over scattered thoughts,
Like mislaid rugs
As I remember love

Pictures tilted hang the years
Papered walls of yesterday
Clinging like the ivy vine
Climbing dreams to swing and sway
Blistered hands against the chains of truth
Yet, I remember love

Grown too big for tree house days
The old oak strains to reach the sky
Initials carved with hearts inspired
By the flutter of a sigh
Had I known then, what I know now
It would have made me smile
Yes, I remember love
